Springfield, MN
Robert 'Bob' Sturm’s dedication to the game of baseball was a lifelong journey that began on the diamonds of Springfield, Minnesota. A 1960 graduate of Springfield High School, Bob’s playing career included high school baseball and town ball with the Springfield Tigers (1956–1980).
His impact on the sport reached far beyond the chalk lines. For over 30 years, from 1975 to 2007, Bob served the Springfield Baseball Association in nearly every leadership capacity, including President, Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer. Even after his formal terms ended, he remained a fixture at the ballpark, serving as a press box announcer, statistician, and umpire.
Bob’s commitment to the Springfield community and the local facilities was unmatched. He was a driving force behind renovation efforts at Springfield's Riverside Park. For many years, he helped manage the concession stand for high school, VFW, Legion, and town team games, often serving "Bob’s Burgers," which became a beloved staple for the local community.
Central to Bob's life was his family. He and his wife, Sharon, raised six children and Bob's passion for the game was often shared with them on the south lawn of the family farm. In later years, he proudly followed the athletic pursuits of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Deeply rooted in his faith, Bob was an active member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, serving as a catechist, lector, and Eucharistic Minister. His volunteer spirit extended to the Knights of Columbus, the Jaycees, the Lions Club, and organizations like Meals on Wheels and the local museum.
Whether he was announcing a game from the press box, working in the concession stand, or starting a conversation with a neighbor at the ballpark, Bob Sturm's legacy is woven into the very fabric of Springfield baseball.
