December 21, 1943 - June 25, 2024

It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we announce the passing of James Michael Brennan, on June 25, 2024.  He was a beloved member of the Hinckley community.

He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota to J.D and Susan (Saloka) Brennan, on December 21, 1943, and raised in Hinckley, Minnesota.  James graduated from Hinckley High School in 1961 before furthering his education and graduating from St. Cloud State College in 1965. He proudly served in the Army Reserves from 1965 to 1971.

James enjoyed a successful career as an accountant and computer science project manager in the Twin Cities. He called various places home throughout his life, including Lino Lakes, Eden Prairie, Lakeville, and eventually settled back in the Rutledge area.  In 1978, James married Julie Davis, and together they shared many cherished memories. Later in July 2020, he found love once again with his wife Patti (VonRueden) Hovanetz.

James was a devoted member of the Hinckley Athletic Association, embodying his passion for baseball.  A true sports enthusiast, James played for the Hinckley Knights from 1959 to 1993. He dedicated over 35 years of service as the Eastern Minny League Secretary and was honored with inductions into the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Hinckley Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 2021.

A proud member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hinckley, James was also known for his involvement in the Last Mans Club and his commitment to supporting and volunteering for the Hinckley Knights. In his leisure time, James enjoyed skiing in Vail, Colorado, traveling the world, cheering on Gopher Football, and most of all, spending quality time with his loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his father J.D. Brennan, mother Susan Brennan, first wife Julie Brennan, second wife Patti (Hovanetz) Brennan, his uncle Bill Brennan, and brother-in-law DuWayne Dahl.

James is survived by his sister Mary Jane Dahl, of Rush City, brother Dennis (Gail) Brennan of Hinckley, nephews; DuWayne (Brenda) Dahl of Rush City, Jarrod (Melissa) Brennan of Byron, Chris (Tyler) Davis of Fayetteville, GA, Eric (Carrie) Davis of Santa Monica, CA, nieces; Stephanie Suloff of Pine City, Leandra (Jim) Guptill of Rock Creek, Renae (Joe) Brennan of Hinckley, step-daughter Karen (Tom) Hart of Ham Lake, step-son Jay (Sherry) Hovanetz of Zimmerman, many great and great-great nieces and nephews, other relatives, and a host of longtime friends.
