Al started playing organized baseball for Sebeka High School in 1950 as a freshman and he also played for the Nimrod town team at this time.
In 1953, Al played for Callaway, in 1954 he played for Perham, from 1955-1957 he played for New York Mills.
In 1958 and 1959 Al was in the Army and stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. During his service he pitched for the Army team.
When he returned from the Army, he played for Perham from 1961-1977.
In 1985, Al returned to Senior baseball in Dent and played until 1997. From 1997-2001 he played Senior baseball for Perham.
He served as the honorary co-chair of the "Save the Ballpark" campaign in Perham which focused on grandstand replacement.
Al is active in the Knights of Columbus and his church. He is on the board of the St. James Manor, an elderly housing project.
